Warrant Redemptions

Physical warrants are presented for payment to the State Treasurer by one or more financial institutions along with the Federal Reserve Bank. The Warrant Processing Division reconciles to the outstanding database, much like balancing a check register for a monthly bank statement. All stale warrants (those issued over 180 days) are returned to the bank within 24 hours. And, as a result of the Federal Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (or Check 21) signed into law October 28, 2003, the Treasurer's Office also processes physical substitute checks and warrant images created through the Federal Reserve System. The Treasurer's Office does not accept pre-authorized debits.
