Making a Difference in Our Community
The Office of the State Treasurer is more than a government agency. It is an organization made up of dedicated individuals who want to make a difference and know that it takes more than one person to make a community. It takes working together for a common goal.
OST staff often participate in community events and organize volunteer efforts. Visit this page to see our latest efforts.

Holiday Fund Raiser at the Treasurer's Office
The State Treasurer’s office believes in being a good neighbor and giving back to the community. During the holiday season it is so easy to get carried away with shopping, planning family dinners, or making travel plans that we forget that not all families are as fortunate. There are many families who do not have the luxury of having a Christmas tree or gifts for their kids; families within our community who have no idea where their next meal will come from. This year, as with previous years, the OST family wanted to give back to the community.
The holiday fundraising committee started the season with a silent auction and bake sale. Employees from other agencies on capital campus helped us with this event either by biding on one of the amazing gift baskets or donating and picking up a delicious treat. Next we held a cake walk where eight lucky individuals walked away with divine treats such as chocolate cake and apple pie and this sweetened the fundraising pot. Finally, we closed the season with the first annual chili cook-off. We had ten different types of chili that ranged from mild to spicy and featured old schools style without the beans or new school style with beans. Employees donated for a taste and then cast their ballot for the best tasting chili. The crowned chili champion was our own Cindy Doughty.
In total OST staff, with the help of friends, was able to raise around $1,500 total. A portion of the funds was given to Thurston County Food Bank to help provide holiday meals for families around the county. The remainder went to provide clothing and presents for two families and grocery gift cards for two seniors in need.
The Treasurer’s staff would like to thank everyone who helped us make a difference this holiday season.
