Our Mission
The choices we make today managing our financial resources will have a profound effect on our economy, our environment and our quality of life for generations to come.
In today's rapidly changing financial world, our mission is to manage investments and debt in a manner that preserves and enhances our state's strong financial standing, builds our economy, and gets the highest value for every tax dollar. We value the safety and security of public funds, transparency in financial management, and smart, long-term investments.
Safety and Security of Public Funds
Taxpayers rely on the Office of the State Treasurer to make sure their money is safe and secure. In cash management, bond sales, short-term and long-term investments, we are committed to protecting the public's tax dollars and achieving the best possible rates of return.
By working together with local governments and school districts to pool investments, issue debt, and protect public deposits we can build a more secure future for all of our communities.
Transparency of Financial Management
Public trust is built on accountability. By establishing clear, accessible performance measures, building a strong working relationship with the state auditor and communicating with the public, the Treasurer's Office is accountable for every dollar entrusted to us.
Smart, Long-Term Investments
Financing for transportation projects, capital improvements for schools, universities, parks and other state institutions is a major challenge. Establishing smart principles on tolling, investment and borrowing ensures that we can meet the state's needs and help build our economy.
Our financial expertise provides a strong voice on the State Investment Board, which invests teacher and public employee pension funds. It reflects our belief that environmental, social, and corporate governance issues can affect the performance of investment portfolios.
We believe that affordable education and housing build strong communities, and our voice on the Guaranteed Education Tuition Board and the State Housing Finance Commission reflects these values.
